The Anatomie Italian Summer Edit

Layering Matters More Than You Think

Italy's weather shifts quickly. Cool mornings on the coast, hot midday sun in Rome, breezy evenings on the water. The best approach is lightweight layers you can add or remove without rethinking your entire outfit. Pack pieces that work on their own but also layer cleanly together, and you'll never feel caught off guard.

Kenya Safari Jacket

The piece that pulls every travel day together. Structured enough to look intentional, lightweight enough to forget you're wearing it. Toss it on at the airport and keep it on through your first espresso in Capri.

Kate Skinny Cargo Pant in Wheat

The foundation of the entire trip. In Wheat, it moves from flights to cobblestones to casual dinners without missing a beat. The kind of pant that makes packing light feel effortless, not limiting.

Delaney Travel Vest

An extra layer that never feels like one. Stone keeps it neutral enough to work over everything, and the weight is just right for cool mornings on the Amalfi or overly air-conditioned trains.

Cruz Performance Twill Pant

The polished option for days spent walking through Rome. Tailored enough to feel elevated at dinner, technical enough to handle ten miles of cobblestones without complaint.

Serena Top

Soft, refined, and endlessly mixable. Pairs as easily with the Cruz Pant for a Roman lunch as it does with shorts for a low-key coastal afternoon.

Marine Travel Dress

The one piece that does everything in Capri. Lunch, aperitivo, dinner; it transitions without effort and somehow looks better as the day goes on.

Apiedi Cargo Shorts

The practical counterpart for beach towns and boat days. Functional pockets, relaxed fit, and a look that leans chic rather than athletic.

Experience Italy

Your Guidebook

There are places that impress you- and then there’s Italy. The kind of place that pulls you back again and again.

I have quite literally flown to Rome just to have dinner on the way home from another European trip. That’s the effect Italy has.

This part of Italy is best experienced in layers. Rome gives you history, atmosphere, and the feeling that beauty exists casually around every corner. Capri brings glamour, sea air, and water so vividly blue it feels almost unreal in the sunlight. Naples adds energy and chaos in the best possible way. Sorrento, Ischia, Ponza and Positano create the coastal rhythm around it.

Despite the crowds, Capri still calls my name each summer. There is something about the island that feels almost impossible to resist: long lunches, sunset cocktails, swimming in bluest Italian waters, beach clubs carved into the rocks, handmade sandals, and late dinners that stretch well past midnight.

The magic is not in rushing between places. It’s in lingering longer than planned.

Discover Rome

Rome is a city that rewards wandering. The best moments are rarely the ones planned months in advance. They happen between reservations and ruins: a cappuccino near the Pantheon, a long lunch in Trastevere, cocktails overlooking the Colosseum, and getting lost in Monti just before dinner.

This is a city that somehow feels grand and intimate at the same time.

Where to Stay in Rome

Hotel Eden

Classic Roman luxury with impeccable service and a timeless atmosphere.

Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Expansive views over Rome, resort-like calm, and one of the city’s most iconic breakfast spreads.

Where to Eat & Drink in Rome

Trattoria Da Teo

One of those classic Roman spots that still feels local despite its reputation. Order the fried artichoke, the Roman artichoke when in season, and absolutely save room for the strawberries and cream dessert.

Le Mani in Pasta

A Trastevere favorite known for seafood and handmade pasta. The crudo topped with shaved truffles is the order here.

Armando al Pantheon

Just steps from the Pantheon and known for one of the city’s best amatriciana dishes. Classic Roman dining done properly.

I Vaccinari

A Monti favorite for Roman classics, especially carbonara. The kind of place that feels warm, lively, and exactly right after a long Roman day.

Sant’Eustachio Il Caffè

One of Rome’s most iconic coffee bars and the perfect cappuccino stop near the Pantheon. There’s even a piece of coffee lore attached to it: a Nestlé engineer reportedly became fascinated by the espresso technique used here in the 1970s, which later helped inspire the development of the Nespresso system.

The Court

For cocktails overlooking the Colosseum at golden hour. One of the more glamorous moments you can have in Rome.

What to Do in Rome

Bike the Ancient Appian Way

One of the most memorable experiences in Rome is taking an electric bike tour through the ancient Appian Way, passing Roman aqueducts, ruins, and the catacombs along the way. Some tours stop for cheese and wine before returning to the city, which somehow makes the entire experience feel even more cinematic.

Wander Monti

One of Rome’s most charming neighborhoods for wandering slowly, lingering over wine, and easing into the rhythm of the city.

The Pantheon & Historic Center

Skip overplanning this part. Start near the Pantheon and let the day unfold naturally.

Scavi Tour

One of the most fascinating and exclusive experiences in Rome. The Scavi Tour takes you beneath St. Peter’s Basilica into the Vatican Necropolis, where ancient tombs, ruins, and what is believed to be the burial site of Saint Peter sit hidden below the city. It feels less like a traditional tour and more like stepping through layers of history that most visitors never get to see. Reservations are extremely limited and should be booked well in advance.

Aperitivo

Aperitivo is not just a drink before dinner. In Italy, it is a pause. A reason to sit somewhere beautiful and let the evening begin slowly.

In Rome, make time for a proper golden hour cocktail before dinner. The Court Rome is the polished version, with Colosseum views and a true sense of occasion. For something more casual, let aperitivo happen naturally in Monti or Trastevere, where one glass can easily become the start of the night.

Naples

Naples is loud, chaotic, energetic, and completely worth it. The move here is simple: arrive early, eat the pizza, then continue on to Capri.

L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele

There are now outposts around the world, but the original in Naples is still the one that matters. Arrive about 15 to 20 minutes before opening so you can avoid the famously long line, then head to the ferry afterward for Capri. It turns the transfer into part of the experience rather than just a travel day.

Where to Stay in Capri

Caesar Augustus

Even if you are not staying here, come for sunset cocktails or aperitivo. The views over the Bay of Naples feel almost surreal as the light changes.

Hotel La Palma

Freshly reimagined with a more contemporary luxury feel while still rooted in classic Capri glamour.

Grand Hotel Quisisana

A Capri institution and longtime gathering place for stylish summer travelers.

Where to Eat & Drink in Capri

Capri Rooftop

One of the island’s best lunch or cocktail views overlooking the Faraglioni.

Salotto Bohémien

A stylish wine lounge and cocktail terrace perfect before dinner.

Da Paolino

Dinner beneath the lemon trees is the entire point. One of Capri’s most atmospheric dining experiences.

Aurora

Classic glamorous Capri dinner energy.

Villa Verde

A lively, social Capri dinner scene that often turns into a very late evening.

Beach Clubs

La Fontelina

The iconic Capri beach club with Faraglioni views and classic striped umbrellas.

Da Luigi ai Faraglioni

A slightly more intimate beach club option tucked beneath the rocks.

Lido del Faro

One of the best places on the island to stretch lunch into sunset.

Il Riccio

Part beach club, part long lunch destination, with dramatic waterfront views.

Insider Note

Reserve beach clubs as far in advance as possible, especially for La Fontelina, Da Luigi and Il Riccio. Capri rewards the traveler who plans the right moments early, then leaves the rest of the day open.

What To Do in Capri

Take a Private Boat Around the Island

The best way to experience Capri is from the water. Charter a boat for the day, circle the island, swim in hidden coves, pass beneath the Faraglioni, and let the entire day slow down.

See the Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto is iconic for a reason, with water that glows an almost electric blue. It can also be crowded and weather dependent, so treat it as a beautiful bonus rather than the entire plan.

Have Custom Sandals Made

Il Sandalo Caprese

A longtime favorite for custom leather sandals made specifically to your feet.

Casa del Sandalo

An understated option for handmade Capri sandals using traditional techniques.

Gardens of Augustus & Via Krupp

One of the island’s most beautiful walks, with sweeping coastal views and the dramatic curves of Via Krupp below.

Explore Anacapri

Quieter, calmer, and slightly more elegant than Capri town, with a slower rhythm that feels beautifully balanced.

After Dark

Capri has a way of turning dinner into a late night without asking permission. Start with aperitivo, linger over dinner, and let the night find its own rhythm.

For a more glamorous evening, Aurora and Villa Verde both bring that polished Capri social energy. For something slightly more relaxed, begin with wine or cocktails at Salotto Bohémien before dinner and see where the night goes.

Visiting Sorrento

A Stop in Between

Sorrento works best as a polished coastal stop between destinations. Think cliffside views, lemon groves, and sea air.

It does not need to be the center of the trip. It works beautifully as a pause between Naples, Capri and the rest of the coast.

What to Do

Lemon Grove & Limoncello Experience

One of the best ways to experience Sorrento is through its famous lemons. At I Giardini di Cataldo, visitors can explore a traditional citrus grove while learning about local lemon cultivation and tasting limoncello, jams, sweets and other regional specialties.

Marina Grande

A relaxed waterfront area perfect for seafood and a slower afternoon by the water.

Positano & Ischia

Where to Stay

Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa

One of the island’s chicest luxury stays, known for its thermal spa, sea views and private-feeling location.

What to Do in Ischia

Thermal Gardens

One of the defining Ischia experiences and what makes the island feel distinct from Capri.

Sant’Angelo

A beautiful pedestrian seaside village ideal for wandering, swimming, and lingering over lunch.

Slow Coastal Lunches

Ischia is the place to do less. Build in time for a long lunch, a swim, and a walk without turning the day into a checklist.

How to Move Through It

When to Go

Late spring through early fall is the classic window. June and September are especially beautiful, with warm weather and slightly less intensity than peak August.

July and August bring the full Italian summer atmosphere, but also the largest crowds and hottest temperatures. Go then if you want the scene. Choose June or September if you want the beauty with a little more breathing room.
